I often get asked by my couples if I ‘recommend’ that they have an engagement session. It’s a tricky question to answer, because above all else I want my business to be completely people focused and friendly, so ‘selling’ add on’s to your wedding package goes against everything I believe in. However, for some couples an engagement session is really beneficial, not to mention a lot of fun!

There are a few reasons why an engagement session is so beneficial. Having a practice run at being photographed helps you feel more relaxed and comfortable with the photography. We get to know one another, you see how I work and the relaxed and fun experience helps you to put aside any worries you may have about being photographed on your wedding day. You can read my top five reason to have an engagement session on the blog here 🙂
Another, less common but equally beneficial, reason to have an engagement session is to use it as a replacement for having couple photographs taken on the wedding day. It gives us a free and flexible time period to take some lovely photographs of you two together outside the time restrictions of a wedding day. Not only does this allow the session to feel more relaxed, with no time pressures, but it also frees up time on your wedding day because your couple photographs are already done. Some couple choose to have this session before the wedding, some after as a post wedding celebration session.
That is exactly what Li & Steve chose to do before their intimate wedding ceremony in Nottingham. They had booked a couple of hour’s coverage for their wedding ceremony and decided to add on an engagement session in Sherwood Forest a few weeks before the wedding. It worked beautifully and we captured some fun, warm and beautiful images of them and their two little fur babies.
