What does a winter wedding at Norwood Park look like? Imagine the woody, smoky smell of open fires and the heady pine scent of an enormous Christmas tree glittering in the entrance hall…
I did a little happy dance when Becs & James booked me for their winter wedding at Norwood Park. Not only because they sounded like a lovely couple (which they are), or because I always love shooting at Norwood Park, but because Norwood Park in winter holds a special place in my heart. My sister and her husband had their wedding reception at Norwood Park a few days before Christmas, and the smell of those open fires and that scent of the Christmas trees immediately transport me back to one of the best weddings I have ever enjoyed (slightly biased perhaps).
Norwood Park in winter
I loved how Becs & James added touches of winter sparkle to their day without any christmas tackiness. It was more winter wonderland than Santa’s grotto and it was beautiful. Of course the roaring fires and traditional decorations that always adorn a winter wedding at Norwood Park added a sophisticated nod to Christmas, but Becs choice of a vibrant red for her bridesmaids and combined it with beautiful hand gathered flowers incorporating eucalyptus and pine cones for texture created a beautiful winter aesthetic. I particularly loved Becs vintage fur jacket that they had found tucked away in the attic and which has once belonged to her Grandma. It had the most beautiful monogram inside; it’s lovely to think that Becs Grandma was right next to her heart the entire day.
The wedding itself was a wonderfully personal affair. Becs got ready at her family home and walked across the street to the church directly opposite. After the ceremony they jumped into a vintage car owned by a family friend and zipped throughout the countryside to Norwood Park. The guests were greeted at Norwood by festive wreaths on the doors and a glass of warm mulled wine, perfect as it was a pretty cold and rainy day. The rain didn’t stop us taking some beautiful photographs around the house; I have my little secret spots to disappear for a few minutes of quite time with the bride & groom to create some warm, romantic images.
