Oh my, I’ve been so excited about sharing this beautiful military wedding at The Orangery Settington! Jen & Rich have the most perfect love story, the kind of love story Richard Curtis would love to get his hands on. The met by chance at a mutual friend’s birthday party. After both being stood up by the various friends who were supposed to be accompanying them, they both decided to go ahead anyway and turned up to the party on their own – only to find each other and spend the rest of the evening in rapt conversation. The rest, as they say, is history 🙂
I absolutely adored these two, the way Rich looks at Jen would melt even the coldest heart and when Jen smiles it simply lights up the room.
Elegant military wedding at The Orangery Settrington
I loved every minute of shooting their wedding; from arriving the night before the a hotel full of Rich’s family from New Zealand (who welcomed me in like one of their own!) to the cute little cottage where Jen and her girls get ready in the morning. From the beautiful church where they said their vows infront of a huge congregation of smiling friends and family, to one of the longest confetti lines I have ever shot! I love that Jen & Rich drove themselves from the church to the reception venue in a little vintage sports car, and I was totally in love with their choice of reception venue. I have never shot at The Orangery at Settrington before and I was blown away, it was simply stunning. The grounds were so beautiful I arrived to Jen in the morning skipping for joy at the possible photo location for later, and the hall where they ate the wedding breakfast was beautiful! Helped along by Jen & Rich’s gorgeous flower displays by Minnie Bee’s Floral Design and the amazing cake table by put together by Jen’s family and Dreamworld cakes.
I adored this stunning venue so if you are planning a spectacular military wedding at The Orangery Settrington then do get in touch here.
I hope you enjoy this brief overview of their story 🙂 and to Jen & Rich, thank you so much for trusting your memories in my hands and welcoming me into your wedding like an old friend xx
Jen and her bridesmaids got ready in the ‘old gas lighters cottage’ in the ground of The Orangery at Settington, before heading over to Jen’s family church in Thornton-le-Dale. I love how serene and beautiful Jen looked as she arrived to church – one of my favourite shots from the day – and I was lucky enough that her Dad was standing waiting for her to open to door in a perfect place for me to capture his reflection (and that of the bridal bouquet he was carrying) in the car window. Jen told me that this is one of her all time favourite shots from the collection – mine too Jen! I love the classic elegance of this shot. A military man in uniform on a wedding day always looks so smart and classical, so a timeless photograph in front of the beautiful stone church fits this military wedding perfectly. How beautiful is The Orangery at Settrington?! I really hope I have chance to shoot there again soon, it has definitely made it into my top 3 wedding venues I’ve ever worked at.
Rich decided to change out of his formal military uniform for their portraits around the grounds of The Orangery. I love how this change gives a variety to the photographs, but also how it adds an element of formality and timelessness to the earlier shots, and an air of softness and a more relaxed feel to the later photographs. It really gives the collection of their wedding photographs a story. Thank you for the most amazing day Jen & Rich xx
