I have desperate to shoot at the fantastic West Mill Wedding Venue in Derby ever since it opened. This stunning Grade 1 listed former industrial mill dates back to the early 1800’s and has been beautifully converted into a wedding venue right on the side of the river Derwent and is absolutely packed with cool original features. So, I was super excited when Gemma & Alan got in touch about their plans for their winter wedding at The West Mill Derby last December. A winter wedding in the perfect winter venue!
Winter wedding at The West Mill Derby
I arrived the morning of Gemma & Alan’s wedding to a flurry of snow and I was jumping for joy at the wintery perfection. I was so excited to see and photograph the venue that I arrived about half an hour before the bride but when she arrived we made our way up to the cute little bridal prep room right next to the ceremony space, super convenient. I loved the unique & wintery touches Gemma & Alan added into their day. They had a cocktail making kit on each table with ingredients for a different cocktail from each place they had visited together, so when the guests sat down to dinner they were able to put together their very own cocktail. The venue decor was classical winter with lots of soft lights and candles and the occasional sprig of holly on the table.
I loved how the different spaces in the venue worked so well for different parts of the day, it allowed maximum relaxation and fun with minimum hustling from place to place to re-set the rooms. There were so many cool touched throughout that I went a bit crazy with the number of photographs, but I think it all goes towards creating a picture of the day that Gemma & Alan will be able to look back on.
If you are planning a winter wedding at The West Mill Derby then do get in touch, I’d love to hear from you 🙂
